Boot hangs after POST

Post by Scott Well » Tue, 27 Apr 1999 04:00:00

I'm running a OpenBSD 2.4 system, and after the POST finishes, I get a
message like

Booting From Partition: 0 Drive: 3

And then the system hangs (might say something other than booting).  When I
start from floppy, and boot boot hd0a:/bsd at the boot> prompt, all is well.
I'm running on a P133 machine, 64MB RAM, dual HDD's.  Attached is the info
from dmesg:

Thanks,

- Scott

try reinstalling the boot block and second stage bootloader by booting
into single-user mode (-s at the boot> prompt) and do a

        # /usr/mdec/binstall ffs /

1. boot hangs in POST after connecting SATA HDD

Hi,

I have an EPoX 8VTAI mobo. Has 2 ATA IDE on it already in IDE0 + IDE1.

I bought a SATA WD800JD HDD. I power it up and connect it to the SATA1
port on the mobo.

I change Integrated Periferals->VIA OnChip IDE->SATA mode=IDE in the
BIOS Setop.

I reboot and the boot never gets past POST. Just hangs there.

Any suggestions as to what to try next?

Thanks!
