When I install RedHat I specify a Norwegian keyboard, and then I get
a couple of accent keys that act as dead keys. For instance, I have
the accent grave as shift-backslash, and I press shift-backslash,
release, press a, release, and get . Apparently nothing happens when
I press shift backslash, but then, on the next keypress it takes
effect. I do have some odd characters bound to AltGr + some other
character, for instance, AltGr+r gives ? (registered trademark).
Unfortumately I don't remember how all this is really configured,
i.e., what condig files and settings. I do remember (I had to
research it some years ago) that there were two distinct sets of
settings, one for the console, and one for the X server.
These things may have changed since then, currently on my RH-8.0 there
is something happening during boot when the script
/etc/rc.d/init.d/keytable is run.... mm, look at man loadkeys.
Regards, Enrique
1. grave accent (backquote) in scoterm
How can I get this character out of a UK keyboard using scoterm on
OS5. The key just produces backslash. Shell programming without is
seriously limited.
