Linux box shows up in network neighborhood, Samba shares are not??

Post by John » Tue, 18 Feb 2003 09:19:30

I have recently installed RedHat 7.3 and added Samba as a file server.  I
have  Samba loaded, the RedHat computer shows up in Network Neighborhood on
all my windows computers, but I cannot access any shares.

I have configured shares using SWAT.  I have DNS and WINS resolved by an
Win2000 server.  I have user accounts and passwords setup, I have
smbpasswords set up.

I have tcpdump running on the Linux box  and can see all kinds of activity
on the Linux screen as a Windows NT machine tries to connect.

I get an error from the NT workstation

     \\Linux is not accessable.

No service is operating at the destination network endpoint on the
remote system.

What am I doing wrong? Do I have to mount drives or file systems or what?
Please help.

Would it be possible for you to post the /etc/samba/smb.conf file? Maybe we
can work out what is wrong from there...

Fixed the problem.  It was the firewall.  Duh...
