Using virtual fonts to scale outline fonts

Using virtual fonts to scale outline fonts

Post by Benjamin Cur » Sat, 20 Jul 1996 04:00:00

Here is what I'm trying to do...

I'm trying to use dvips to create ps files with embedded type 1 fonts.
The problem comes when the dvi file has 'odd sizes' of font which I do not
have type 1 fonts for.  So I'm trying to use a virtual font to replace all the
instances of say cmr24 with a scaled up cmr17.

Unfortunately I cannot get this to work, could anyone provide me with advice or
a sample bit of vpl which would do this.

Thanks,
        Ben.

This sounds odd to me.  Aren't Type 1 fonts scalable?

1. invisible fonts for SliTeX using virtual fonts

It seems to be that we can throw away all the invisible fonts needed
for SLiTeX by generating virtual fonts of the right name which simply
leave the right amount of space. So to generate an invisible font
corresponding to foo.tfm, i need merely generate foo.pl, extract the
right information into a foo.vpl and then give myself a foo.vf.
Question: has anyone done a program already to take foo.pl and write
foo.vpl? It won't be difficult, but I don't want to waste my time if
it already exists
