The default margins are usually set in
/usr/local/lib/texmf/dvips/config.ps
(It's not a postscript file, it's a plain text file).

Hi, how to specify default margins to dvips? it seems that the copy of
dvips that i am using put the default margin 1in to the left, and
0.3in from the top of the page. how this happened? the command line
option -O shift everything on the base of the default margin. but how
the default margin is set? thanks a lot.

1. Default margins of LaTeX

HI,

Does anyone know the rationale behind the seemingly large default
margins for LaTeX, eg the article class?

If it is to make the line length for the default 10pt font right, then
doesn't it suggest that 10pt may be too small as a fault?

Regards,
