last-minute request for help with font sizing

Post by Steven Robertso » Tue, 07 May 2002 22:12:23

Hi all, apologies for breaking the 'work-it-out-by-self' thing...
numerous web searches aren't helping me, nor are the references I have,
and I have about an hour to get this sorted out... (freaking out :)

Can anyone give me a single one-line command in regular TeX (not LaTex)
to increase font size? Right now, I'm using cmr12, but it isn't scaling
very well, i.e. not at all.

I'm not particular about the font, but it's for a uni essay, so needs to
be something reasonable, i.e. not Wingdings :)

Many thanks.

You first have to load the font in the desired size
 either: \font\Bigfont = cmr12 scaled 1200   % e.g.: 20 percent increased
 or:     \font\Bigfont = cmr12 at 14pt       % designsize -> 14pt
 or:     \font\Bigfont = cmr12 at 14truept   % overrules magnification
and then switch to this font:
\Bigfont This is typeset using Bigfont.

1. Last help request of the day; long equations

I know, I know, this is my third posting of the day, but someone STOLE
my FM (as in RTFM), so I can't look up diddly today.

In typesetting for mats on a paper, I'm doing it quick and dirty by
setting \textwidth=4.625in  Yet if I have long equations, they seem
to ignore this and go on forever (i.e., 5 or 6 inches).  Is there and
equivalent \equationwidth command?

Thanks for bearing with me.

-A.
