Fatal error in MiKTeX 2.0!?

Post by Marko Pinteri » Sun, 25 Mar 2001 01:21:57

I have used 1.2e, and I have installed new 2.0 version in new directory.

However, when I tried to*something this is all I got!

This is TeX, Version 3.14159 (MiKTeX 1.20e)
(Fatal format file error; I'm stymied)

How is it possible?  I have deleted all old Mik specifications with
Regedit.

Fatal error in MiKTeX 2.0!?

Post by Marko Pinteri » Sun, 25 Mar 2001 02:52:59

I found the error.
I had an obsolete batch file where there was a pointer to old
directory:  d:\oldpath\latex --src %1 %2 %3

But now a new question.  Is it possible to make --src automatic,
not using stupid batch file?

Thanks.

Not that I know of. You could post this as a Tech Request at the
MiKTeX site on SourceForge.

1. MiKTeX gives "Fatal format file error." Please help!

I just installed MikTeX 1.07 on my Windows NT machine (I used to use EmTeX
& Windows '95).  The program seemed to install normally, and it produced
the TEST.DVI file just fine.  When I try to process my own documents (all
in Plain TeX), however, I always get the same result:

   C:\TeX\MYTEXDOC>tex emxkey1
This is TeX, Version 3.14159 (MiKTeX 1.07)
(Fatal format file error; I'm stymied)

   C:\TeX\MYTEXDOC>

My PATH variable is OK, and the Registry appears to have all the right
values, too.  The PLAIN.FMT file is right where it should be, according to
the environment file and the registry. I'm using a dual P6 system, NT 4.0
(Service Pack 2), and an NTFS partition, if that helps.

Maybe I shouldn't have waited until a week before my dissertation proposal
was due to get this straightened out, but I would be VERY thankful if some
kind soul out there would tell me what's wrong.

Thanks!
