Generating missing fonts with DVIWIN 2.9

Generating missing fonts with DVIWIN 2.9

Post by Paolo Amoro » Mon, 21 Apr 1997 04:00:00

I use emTeX (14 Jan 1996 version) and DVIWIN 2.9/32 under Win95. I
configured the latter for generating missing screen fonts. Since I preview
at 1024x768, I set the base resolution to 145dpi. Besides the modifications
to the GENPK.BAT file mentioned in the documentation, I had to change the
references to the "hplaser" Metafont mode to "laserjet" because the version
of MODES.MFJ I have doesn't include it.

DVIWIN correctly generates only fonts at resolutions of 145, 174 and 250
dpi, but it fails to generate fonts at several other resolutions, e.g. 76,
84, 90, 100, 110, 119, 130, 143, 156, 171, 188, 205 dpi. Why does this
happen? Any suggestions? Does it exist, by the way, a version of DVIWIN
later than 2.9 (I've checked a CTAN site and that was the only available
one). Thanks in advance.

I think, the relation between dpi and magstep is (1.2)^(magstep)=
dpi/300.
Where if dpi<300 then magstep<0or if dpi>=0 then magstep>=0.
In genpk.bat in Dviwin distribution, you can not get some resolutions.
To get these, bye using the formula you should add some lines,
for example, to get 257dpi resolution, you should put "if %3==257
set PK_MAG=-0.85715" in genpk.bat. Version 2.9 is the latest avaliable to
th public.
