Distiller not respecting margins

Distiller not respecting margins

Post by Soeren Laurse » Sat, 04 Sep 1999 04:00:00

I have made a*document with 1.5 cm top and bottom margins on
a4paper.  The PostScript file looks nice and prints fine.  However,
Distiller creates a pdf file in which the page is shifted a few
centimeters upwards.  This results in only half of the first line
being visible.

The problem disappears when I distill with:

distill -pagesize 21 29.7 cm

However, my attempts to make this page format default has not been
successful.  I have the following in my ~/AcrobatDistiller:

AcrobatDistiller.compatibilityWarningIssued:    YES
AcrobatDistiller.compatibilityLevel:    3.000000
AcrobatDistiller.defaultPageWidth:      21
AcrobatDistiller.defaultPageHeight:     29.7
AcrobatDistiller.measurementUnits:      cm

The settings seem to have no effects?

Distiller not respecting margins

I use Acrobat Distiller 3.01 (french version) on Win95 with the following
parameters:

compatibilty : Acrobat 3.0
ascii format : unchecked
resolution : 600 dpi (I used an HP laser printer 5P/5MP)
width : 595 pts
height : 841 pts (these figures corresponds to an A4 paper size)
unit : pts

Everything works fine now for me, but at the beginning a experienced the
same problem as yours. I don't remember exactly, but maybe you have
configure Distiller twice by exiting the program in between.

1. hyperref does not set baseurl with Distiller- hyperref bug?

I've been using hyperref [2000/11/05 v6.71a] to produce .pdf
files via dvips -> Adobe Distiller 4.05.  I find that after
I distill, I have to set the base URL manually in the .pdf file,
because it appears to be blank in the distilled file.  (Same with
distiller 5.0)

A typical use is:

\usepackage[%
   dvips,bookmarks,
    pagebackref]{hyperref}
\hypersetup{pdftitle={...},pdfkeywords={...},baseurl={http://www.math.yorku.c
a}}
\hyperbaseurl{http://www.math.yorku.ca}

I find that the pdftitle, pdfkeywords, etc. *do* appear in the distilled
file, but not the baseurl.  Examining the .ps file, I find,

SDict begin [ /Page 1 /View [ /Fit ] /URI << /Base (http://www.math.yorku.ca)

Is there something missing from the pdfmark commands?
How can this be fixed?  It's quite a pain to have to enter the
baseurl manually every time I update a file.
