hvmaths fonts missing pfb fonts

Hi all,

I have just installed the hvmaths package from MicroPress and the related
dtx and ins packages from CTAN. Running*works fine on a sample file.
Viewing with xdvi, however, gives me an error. Obviously some pfb font
files are not found:

...
mktexpk: Running gsftopk hvrm10ex 300
gsftopk(k) version 1.17
Cannot find font file hvrm10ex.pfb
grep: hvrm10ex.log: No such file or directory
mktexpk: `gsftopk hvrm10ex 300' failed to make hvrm10ex.300pk.
xdvi.bin: can't find font hvrm10ex; using cmr10 instead at 300 dpi.
...

and so on. hvrm10ex.pfb is not contained in the hvmaths package and it
doesn't seem to exist anywhere else either. The problem is caused by the
hvfonts.map file. It says:

hvsy10 HVMathSy <hvsy10.pfb
hvbsy10 HVMathSy-Bold <hvbsy10.pfb
hvex10 HVMathEx <hvex10.pfb
hvexb10 HVMathEx-Bold <hvexb10.pfb
hvmi10 HVMath-Italic <hvmi10.pfb
hvmib10 HVMath-BoldItalic <hvmib10.pfb

hvrm10ex HVTextEx             <hvrm10ex.pfb
hvro10ex HVTextEx-Oblique     <hvro10ex.pfb
hvrb10ex HVTextEx-Bold        <hvrb10ex.pfb
hvbo10ex HVTextEx-BoldOblique <hvbo10ex.pfb
...

This dazzles me. How can hvfonts.map refer to non-existent files?

Could anybody else install hvmaths? Please let me know.
I am running TeTex TeX (Web2C 7.3.1) 3.14159,
kpathsea version 3.3.1, on a Linux box (SuSE 6.3 with upgrades).

Thanks in advance,
                    Michael

the hvmath distribution on ctan doesn't include pfb files -- the stuff
in fonts/hvmath contains a set of pk files, and enough*files to
get you going with those .pk files.  however, it also includes .map
files in case you've bought the .pfb files.  did you not read the
hvmath.txt, which says in its "terms of distribution:

This distribution is free for personal home use.

For any kind of professional use you should obtain the Type 1 hinted
version of the HV-math family; this (and many other quality fonts)
  is available from MicroPress.

You are talking about the commercial Type1 fonts, as opposed
to the (obsolete) free demo version?

It should be part of the file set you received from
MicroPress.

Can you use the HV-Math fonts with dvips or pdfTeX and
see the result in a PostScript or PDF viewer?  Maybe you
just forgot to configure xdvi, too?

teTeX has a shell script named "updmap", which adds a
new font map file to _all_ applicatons.  Unf., there are
different versions of the script around.  Consult the
documentation of your TeX system how to use the updmap
script properly.

However, if any of the .pfb files mentioned in the map file
is actually missing, you should address your complaint

will be ready to help.

Im successfully using the HV-Math fonts, with dvips as well as
with VTeX/Free :-)

1. can i convert a pfb font to a pk font?

i have a set of pfb fonts we bought from a vendor.  i was able to use them
in tex on a unix machine by making the tfm files and vf files with afm2tfm
and using the pfb files with dvips.  however, th person who bought these
fonts uses a pc, with arbortex v 2.96.

is there a way to make dvips from this version of arbortex read the pfb fonts?
if not, can i convert pfb format to pk format?
