Does anyone know where I can find a HOWTO file (or kind) to set up a SLIP
then PPP connection for linux 1.1.18 ?

A "SLIP then PPP connection" is what exactly? There is information on SLIP
and PPP in the Net-2-HOWTO. This document, along with the others, is
archived on sunsite.unc.edu in the directory /pub/Linux/docs/HOWTO.

There is information in the PPP package in both the README and README.linux
files.

There is information in the Network Admin Guide.

Well, with all respect - Net-2-HOWTO I've seen (it was a while ago, I
admit) was misleading at best in describing how to configure SLIP...
So I'd suggest to use README file in DIP source tree...

I my understanding that in order for SLIP or PPP to work that you need uugetty
to work. I tried for 2 months and did not get it to work on kernel version
1.1.18 until I upgraded to 1.1.45. Now uugetty answers the phone and I can
login but neither PPP or SLIP server works yet because I haven't figured it
out yet. Yes I have read the doc's and the How 2's.
