scsi problems during boot -please help

Post by Michael He » Wed, 12 Jan 1994 13:06:11

I downloaded slackware 1.1.1 and tried to boot with "bootkern"
Unfortunately boot hangs in what seems to be a SCSI sensing related
failure.
[This error does not exist when booting with SLS 1.02 upgraded to pl12.]

The boot messages [before*] as appear on my screen are:
...
lance_init (0x305d00, 0x1400000)
aha152x: Probing: BIOS test: failed
Configuring Adaptec at IO 330, IRQ 11, DMA priority 5
scsi0: Adaptec 1542
scsi5: interrupts not enabled for better interactive performance,
scsi5: please jumper the boards for a free IRQ.
scsi1: at 0x0308c interrupts disabled options CAN_QUEUE=32
       CMD_PER_LUN=2 release=1 generic options AUTOPROBE_IRQ AUTOSENSE
       PSEUDO DMA generic release=3

Type: Direct Access                       ANSI SCSI   revision: 02
Detected scsi disk sd0 at scsi0, id0, lun0
  Vendor: TOSHIBA             Model: CD-ROM  XM-3401TA      Rev: 0283

Vendor: SyQuest             Model: SQ3105S                Rev: 1_21
Type: Direct Access                       ANSI SCSI   revision: 02
Detected scsi disk sd1 at scsi0, id4, lun0
scsi1: warning: SCSI command probably completed successfully
       before *

[... At this point it hangs.]
Now the strange thing is that I do NOT have a Pro Audio Spectrum-16
installed and the program seems to have identified SOMETHING (?) at
scsi1 (or am I reading this wrong ???) and what are all these message
from scsi5 ???

What I do have is:

VESA IDE controller supporting:
                            5.25" diskette drive
                            3.5"  diskette drive
                            220 MBytes disk drive
Adaptec 1542 C controller supporting:
                            240 MBytes disk drive
                            TOSHIBA 3401 CD-ROM
                            SyQuest 105MBytes removeable drive
AI Stereo FX sound card at IO 220 IRQ 7
ATI VESA GUP video card

Is this a problem with the SCSI driver in pl14 used by slackware 1.1.1 ?
Is there any solution which will enable me to boot with the latest
distribution?

Many thanks in advance!
