UTexas Mail-to-News Gateway reposting articles?

Post by Stephen Bens » Tue, 19 Jul 1994 16:49:19

Has anyone noticed that UTexas Mail-to-News Gateway is reposting old news?
These two headers are from mail which arrived yesterday - both are almost a
week old. I've noticed several others too'. At this rate it'll repost my dumb
faq about diskspace and I'll be flamed all over again (***)

They've also given me a new address.

Did the same to me on a post that was nearly a month old.  Fortunately, the
original didn't elicit any flames, so I hope this reprise doesn't either.  :-)

UTexas Mail-to-News Gateway reposting articles?

>This is probably not the UT gateway. The clue is the mangled address.

>It's called FIDO.

Right.  Another FIDO regurgitation of old news.  It's not the fault
of the UT gateway (which I run, by the way).  Here's a copy of the
note I mailed just now.  Dunno if it will do any good or not.

  Subject: broken FIDO site

There is a FIDO site which is rewriting the Message-ID and the Date
headers of old news articles and sending them to the USENET gateway at

for this, but please stop it!.  In fact, please do not send ANY more
FIDO postings to any newsgroup on cs.utexas.edu; you have irritated
  enough folks already.

Here's an example of the mail headers as they arrive here.  Over one
hundred of them have arrived since Jul 17.  All of them have the string
  "HKIGS-Gateway" in the Received header.

  Thanks
  Fletcher
