We have a couple of Linux (0.99pl9 and 0.99pl13) boxes and some NFS
servers on both our local Ethernet segment and other segments of the
university's LAN.
It is possible to remotely mount file systems on the Linux machines
from the SGI boxes (IRIX 4.0.5) on the local segment. It is even
possible - but incredibly slow - to mount file systems from overseas.
But it seems to be impossible to get stable mounts of RS/6000 AIX 3.2
file systems both on the local segment and other segments of the
LAN. Most of the time mounts hang with
NFS server not responding. Still trying.
If mounting succeeds (very seldom) then NFS to those machines often
hangs. With Irix there is no problem at all.
Has anyone else ever encountered this problem? I have heard if mounts
failing due to high network traffic, but why can I mount the SGI box
in the next room and not the RS/6000 next to it?
I would be pleased if anyone could help me.
