kpanel is a lame duck... Help!

Post by John Mahal » Sat, 29 Jan 2000 04:00:00

I just recently had my kpanel go bad.  None of the buttons on the
toolbar are functional.  They just sit and stare at you if you click
on them.  The same goes for any buttons that I click on from the big
"K" menu.  At least all of the buttons above the "Disk Navigator"
(ones that can be edited in the Menu Editor) are dead links.  Anyone
know what may be wrong or how to reset things?  I have already tried
to reinstal the kdebase RPM, but that didn't solve the problem.  The
same thing is true for the root user as well.  I'm currently running
Mandrake 6.0 with a modified kernel for my CD Burner.

Thanks for any help,

John Mahala

kpanel relies on kfm for starting apps.
So your kpanel works fine, but kfm is simply not running or not
answering.
Since kfm handles desktop icons, you should see very easily whether
it's running or not. If not, start it ! Though it should be started by
startkde...
If it doesn't answer, it means that either
1 - you are mixing 1.1.1 and 1.1.2. Don't do that.
2 - your hostname changes while you're logged in. This can happen
because of
using kppp's "auto-configure hostname from IP" option. Unselect it.

Yes, having a program rely on another is baaad. This has changed in KDE

1. StarOffice a lame duck??

Hi all,

does anyone have info about Sun's intentions toward StarOffice? Is this now a
'lame duck' piece of software with no support?  The Sun web site has no way of
communicating questions or concerns to the supposed support group.

So, anyone know anything about this?
