KDE1 and KDE2 on same machine PROBLEM - Caldera 2.4

Post by sah » Wed, 03 May 2000 04:00:00

Hi all,

I followed the instructions from the KDE site to the letter and have the
option to start KDE2 when my Caldera 2.4 loads.

However, I keep getting the error message that there are no MIME types
installed.  This comes up after I get an error telling me that
application/octet-stream is not there.

Anyone have an idea of how to resolve this?  Where to point...how to point??

Stu

My guess would be that your KDEDIR is wrong when you try to start KDE 2.
Perhaps you missed something in the install instructions, or you have
a shell config file that overwrites the value of KDEDIR (and resets it
to KDE 1.x)
Check with echo $KDEDIR, and make sure that when it tries to run KDE 2
it
is set correctly. Also, look out for more error messages in
~/.xsession-errors.

Hi, I have the same problem, and still not resolved. $KDEDIR looks
fine, QT looks fine. Did somebody with the same problem resolve it and
how?

With which version of KDE ?
There was a bug with the initial startup some time ago (and perhaps
still there,
it's not something we test often!)...
If you can start a terminal, try launching "kbuildsycoca". This should
fix the problem.

See http://www.kde.org/kde1-and-kde2.html for how to set up KDE 2.

1. Libraries Upgrade- KDE2 installation - KDE1 & KDE2 together

I succesfully installed the KDE2 envriroment in my Suse Linux 6.2. In order
to do this, I upadated my gppshare.rpm so that I now have the libc6.1-2.so3
library. The KDE2 enviroment works fine, however Netscape 6, that worked
fine with kde1, now crashes with a message about libc.6.1-.....so2. ( I
suppose the previous library). Can I make it work under kde2? Can I have
both kde1 and kde2 working in my linux box? What can I do to restore
kde1?THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!
