keyboard problems in kde2.1.1

Post by Lana Dim » Wed, 18 Apr 2001 03:59:13

hi,

i've compiled kdesupport, kdebase and kdelibs from the 2.1 sources and the
necessary diffs.  when i don't go to x i have no problems, but when i start

which need a key combination (alt-gr + some key) on my keyboard (i have a
belgian azerty keyboard).  i tried different settings in the control center,
but nothing helps.  anybody got an idea?

thanx!

ps: mandrake 7.2 with xfree4.0.3 and qt2.3.0 (both compiled from the
sources)

Check if there's a symlink /usr/X11/lib/X11/xkb pointing at /etc/X11/xkb
and wheather /etc/X11/xkb contains files.

/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xkb is not a symlink on my system, it's an exisiting
directory and yes, there are files in it.  there is, however, a broken
symlink _in_ that directory called 'compiled'.  does that mean anything?
i've also found these messages in my logs:

(II) Keyboard "Keyboard1" handled by legacy driver
Couldn't load XKB keymap, falling back to pre-XKB keymap

does that ring more bells?

nah, /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xkb/compiled usually points at /var/lib/xkb but
there's no files in it.

Does /etc/X11/xkb exist?
If not, try setting a symlink to /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xkb

1. KDE2.1 -> KDE2.1.1 upgrade problems

Hi there..

I am hoping somebody may be able to help me sort out this annoying problem..

I have Mandrake 7.2 installed on two machines here. I have upgraded the
Kernel to 2.4.3 and everything is fine. I have also upgraded KDE from 2.0
to 2.1 using the Mandrake binary rpms from www.kde.org ...  However, when I
install the 2.1.1 binary rpms, when I log out and log in again, I
get the message 'There was an error setting up inter-process communications
for KDE. DCOPserver not running.' When trying to restart x, I get the above
message and can't get KDE to run... I have to remove the new packages, and
reinstall the old ones before KDE will run again..

I have tried everything I can think of to get it working, but without
success...

Are there any packages I need to upgrade other than the KDE ones to get
2.1.1 working, or is there something stupid I am forgetting to do? (Bit of
a newbie really.....)

Thanks for any help :)

David
