Problem compiling kexpress

Post by Glen Scur » Fri, 17 Sep 1999 04:00:00

Configure goes alright but during make it goes for a while and then...

/usr/lib/libkimgio.so: undefined reference to 'jpeg_read_scanlines'
/usr/lib/libkimgio.so: undefined reference to 'jpeg_start_decompress'
/usr/lib/libkimgio.so: undefined reference to 'jpeg_destroy_decompress'
/usr/lib/libkimgio.so: undefined reference to 'jpeg_std_error'
/usr/lib/libkimgio.so: undefined reference to 'jpeg_CreateDecompress'
/usr/lib/libkimgio.so: undefined reference to 'jpeg_read_header'
/usr/lib/libkimgio.so: undefined reference to 'jpeg_finish_decompress'
/usr/lib/libkimgio.so: undefined reference to 'jpeg_resync_to_restart'

And then make reports Error 1 and it ends.

I had libjpeg-6b-9, libjpeg6a-6a-4, and libjpeg-devel-6b-9 installed the
last time I built kdelibs-1.1.2.

What am I doing wrong?

thx,

glen

>Configure goes alright but during make it goes for a while and then...

>/usr/lib/libkimgio.so: undefined reference to 'jpeg_read_scanlines'
>/usr/lib/libkimgio.so: undefined reference to 'jpeg_start_decompress'
>/usr/lib/libkimgio.so: undefined reference to 'jpeg_destroy_decompress'
>/usr/lib/libkimgio.so: undefined reference to 'jpeg_std_error'
>/usr/lib/libkimgio.so: undefined reference to 'jpeg_CreateDecompress'
>/usr/lib/libkimgio.so: undefined reference to 'jpeg_read_header'
>/usr/lib/libkimgio.so: undefined reference to 'jpeg_finish_decompress'
>/usr/lib/libkimgio.so: undefined reference to 'jpeg_resync_to_restart'

Looks like a jpeg version problem I don't recall the exact numbers but at
some point for example jpeg_CreateDecompress became jpeg_create_decompress so if
you've got 2 versions aroung all sorts of fun & games can result -- BTW there
is a libjpeg in kdesupport but at least one utility (it may well be kexpress; I
can't remember) needs a different version.

Not sure what's the best thing to do -- try to ensure you get the same version
at configure and compile time mostly; I think.

It can be a real pain -- I had endless fun this afternoon with the same problem
in ImageMagik (as the hdf library needed one version and everything else the
other)

Hope this at least gives a lead.

Is you compiler and libs up to date ? Might be worth updating if not.

1. unable to compile Kexpress 0.1.7

When running the ./configure I get:
...
checking for a C++-Compiler...
checking for g++... g++
checking whether the C++ compiler (g++  -s) works... no
configure: error: installation or configuration problem: C++ compiler
cannot create executables.

I have a mandrake 5.3 (redhat 5.2 + KDE 1.1) box with:

gcc-2.7.2.3-14
yacc-91.7.30-36
egcs-c++-1.0.3a-14
egcs-1.0.3a-14
egcs-objc-1.0.3a-14
libstdc++-2.8.0-14

Am I missing some other RPM?

Thanks.
