Help Konsole crashes after KDE 3.0.4 install

Post by joseph castleschould » Sat, 14 Dec 2002 02:16:10

Hello,
I just loaded KDE 3.0.4 on my pc for the second time. I'm running Debian
unstable and everything appears to be alright but the konsole. When I click
on the panel icon it starts and crashes. I've checked KDE.org bug report
but I couldn't find anything that was close. Checked newsgroups. Can somone
steer me in the direction of a solution? Enclosed the crash report.
                          Thanks,
                          Joseph

Qt 3.1? Konsole of KDE up to 3.0.5 will crash with Qt 3.1. Either don't use Qt
3.1, wait for KDE 3.0.6 packages or bug packagers for new packages with fix.

Quote:> I've checked KDE.org bug report but I couldn't find anything that was close.

You didn't look close enough.

Help Konsole crashes after KDE 3.0.4 install

Wilmer,
If you haven't found your answer. This is what I found:
" I ran into this yesterday, to fix it I downgraded the qt libraries to
the ones from testing (sarge).  What happened is debian updated to qt3.1
which apparently breaks the konsole for some reason.  This isn't a problem
though if you are using the kde in debian, but I like kde 3.0 better then
2.2."
Fizz
This told me where to start. I searched the net again and came up with
this:
                        dpkg -i --force-downgrade <package>
First: Edit your /etc/apt/sources.list to reflect Testing.
Second: Go to the command line and issue the above command. Change package
to libqt3-mt. This will change your qt library and your konsole will come
back.
                                                  Joseph

1. QT 3.0.5_x with opengl causes KDE apps(konsole) to crash

Im running FreeBSD 4.7, and KDE 3.0.5 on a dell inspiron 8200 with a NVidia
geforce 440. Ive been trying to enable opengl in QT. I have build QT
3.0.5_3,3.0.5_4 and 3.0.5_5 with no problems. However after installing the
new QT and reinstalling KDE(tried both the release package 3.0.3 and
building new 3.0.5 from ports), many kapps crash when exiting. The apps,
such as konsole, run fine until I go to close them. Then I get a signal 11
(SIGSEGV) with the included backtrace.

Are their any known issues that would cause this problem?

I have installed the NVidia drivers, and am using AA fonts if it matters.
