Noatune not playing mpeg movies

Post by ae1 » Sat, 22 Feb 2003 01:49:48

Anyone,

I just compiled and installed KDE 3.1. Now Noatun is not able to show mpeg
movies files. When i look in the logfile i can see the following messages:

kio (KTrader): KServiceTypeProfile::offers( video/mpeg,KFilePlugin )
kio (KTrader): Returning 0 offers
kio (KTrader): No offers, or none allowed as default

Can anyone explain to me what is going wrong?

Do you have Xine libraries installed?

No,

But this library was also not installed when compiled 3.1rc5. And then is
worked without any problems! Is this something that has changed?

I'm not sure but I believe that xine libs are used in the multimedia package
but I don't know which packages.

http://www.kde.org/info/requirements/3.1.html says xine is recommended.

I have xine installed and have no problem playing mpegs, it could be just
coincidence but then again ...

Glad to hear it!  I wish these sorts of hard dependencies were made more
clear on the KDE website, i.e. No Xine libraries means no mpeg player.

On a related topic, can you get streaming mpegs to play?  I have been
unsuccessful, clicking on an mpeg link in Konqueror brings up noatun but
then nothing happens.  Not a big problem - just a minor annoyance.
