qt-2.3.0 - Starting KDE 2.1.0 fails

Post by Steffen Schmid » Wed, 14 Mar 2001 16:29:27

Hi,

I compiled qt-2.3.0 on a SuSE 7.0 system without problems. But when
starting
KDE 2.1.0 the initialization seems to be stuck. I got the error message

DCOP: number of clients is now down to 4
ERROR: KUniqueApplication: DCOP communication error!
DCOP: unregister 'anonymous-11737'
DCOP: number of clients is now down to 3
DCOP: register 'kdesktop' -> number of clients is now 4
DCOP: register 'anonymous-11741' -> number of clients is now 5
kdesktop: relPath=System/ScreenSavers/
kdesktop: Reading saver: ktux.desktop
kdesktop: Saver-exec: ktux -root
kdesktop: Saver Engine started
DCOP aborting call from 'anonymous-11741' to 'kdesktop'
DCOP: unregister 'kdesktop'

..and this all over again and again.

Does anyone have a clue?

Thanks,
        Steffen

Looks like missing ./configure options in qt-2.3.0
I mylself compiled qt-2.3.0 under SuSE 7.0, but didn't modify my link to
qt2 (initially pointing to /usr/lib/qt-2.2.4).
I think you should verify that the links points to qt-2.2.4 in order to
bring kde2.1 back to life.

Hope this helps

Me too. I've also tried to re-compile KDE2.1 and latest CVS with
qt-2.3 instead of 2.2.4. Both behaved as you describe. Actually, all KDE
programs
(even Konqueror) do work, except for kwin and (possibly) kdesktop,
which form the basis of KDE.

The problem is that it tries to use AA, but fails (probably because of
invalid or missing /etc/X11/XftConfig).
Edit ~/.kde/share/config/kdeglobals, find Antialiasing parameter and change
it to "false"

1. KDE 2.1 with qt-2.3.0 from Rawhide 1.0

Anyone able to run KDE 2.1 with qt-2.3 rpms provided by Rawhide? I
tried to upgrade qt-2.2.4. When I try to log in, I get the splash
screen, then just SIGSEVs. I get the panel but when I click on
anything on it, SIGSEV again. No desktop. If I downgrade to qt-2.2.4
everything works fine.

Any ideas?
