yellow dog linux 2.2 (PPC) and Mandrake 8.2 (i386)  both ship with an
older kde version.

how stable is 3.0?  if it is still "hero-ware," is there a 3.0.1
planned release and scheduled date?

Seems nice and stable to me. With mandrake 8.2, the install is relatively
painless; get the KDE rpms, and try installing it with rpm -Uvh --test; use
rpmfind.net to get deps.

Using Mandrake 8.2, I downloaded all of the Mandrake KDE RPMS, then
just used "urpmi --auto-select *.rpm" in the directory where I stored
the downloaded rpms.  It found and installed all the necessary
prereq's.

It's already tagged, see

Bye,
   Steve

1. KDE 2.2 alpha stability?

I'm thinking of buildind/installing KDE 2.2 to help with testing, but
am wondering about it's stability.  All I use is the desktop, Kmail
and Knode, and the "known problems page" seems to center on
konqueror, which I don't use, so I think I might be OK.  If it would
make my machine crash a few times a week, that would be OK, since I
have a journaling filesystem, but I wouldn't do it if it crashes once
a day (or more).

So, would it be stable enough for my purposes?  Or should I run away
from it, screaming my head off?

Thanks in advance.
