konqueror not showing windows shares...at all

Hi

I have just upgraded to kde-2.1.1 on my RH7 system and it is looking
great. One thing though is, that I really like to browse the wintendo
shares on my LAN (I have heard that this has improved much in this
version of konqueror) but under the network icon the are only "ftp
archives" and "web sites" and no windows shares. I have set my
workgroup and samba is installed and configured properly.

Plz help a kde newbie finding the right icon :-)

Ok, here is a really cool trick. Right click on 'FTP' and select 'New
Window'. That will open up a new Konq. window with your FTP Sites,
then, click the 'Up' arrow (not back) in the new window's tool bar. You
should now see the FTP Folder, the Web Site Folder etc.. Now, right click
on an empty space in that new Konqueror window and select 'Create New' then
'Link To Location(URL)'. Then, enter 'smb://my_windows_machine' and press
enter. Now you can use that icon but I prefer to rename the icon to a more
pleasing title. To rename the icon Right click on the icon and select
'Rename'. Once your down, open a new Konq. window to check out your new
icon!

This same thing works great for adding more FTP sites to your FTP Folder.
Also, you'll notice if you play around that the entire tree navigation
structure on the left of Konq. is controlled through your
/home/yourid/.kde/share/apps/konqueror/dirtree directory, so you can add
whatever you want there. I though this was really cool of the KDE guys to
do.

Thanks,
Dave

No, smb hasn't improved at all in KDE 2.1.1 (it was only a bug-fix and
documentation release) but Caldera has just checked in the new smb kioslave
that will be used in KDE 2.2. It will work together with Richard Sharpe's, a
member of the Samba team, new libsmbclient.

There will also be an icon in the sidebar that takes you directly to the
samba shares.

Mattias

1. Konqueror (KDE 3.1.1) does not redraw nor show tools menus

Dear readers,

after hiding the menu and some views, I cannot show the address bar again
nor does Konqueror redraw its window content - it works if I show the file
list of a directory but it does not work with html anymore?

It is only with one of the users. I think the settings are corrupted, e.b.
the size of the particular subwindows?
Is there any possibility to set the original default settings for konqueror?

Greetings,
Ernst
