KDE2 install

Post by Peep Kilg » Sat, 27 May 2000 04:00:00

Hi.

Please help.
I am running Mandrake 7.0.
I installed kdeall*.rpm package. Then I did all according to the
help on the www-page  http://www.kde.org/kde1-and-kde2.html .

And now ...
-------------
bash:ckde2
bash:kdeinit&
[1] 1124
bash: kdeinit: error in loading shared libraries:
/opt/kde2/lib/libkde-qt-addon.so.3:undefined
symbol: filePath__C180MimeSourceFactory
-----------------
What I should to do?

Do you have Qt 2.1 installed ? If yes, where ?
Does LD_LIBRARY_PATH point to it (in the kde2 script) ?

Also, do you have Qt 2.0 installed ? If yes, where ?
If you don't compile Qt 2.0 apps, remove the libqt.so link for Qt 2.0,
and do the same with the one for Qt 1.x if you don't compile Qt 1.x
apps.

See http://www.kde.org/kde1-and-kde2.html for how to set up KDE 2.

1. Two KDE2 Install Questions

After much hoo-ha, I've got KDE2 installed on my IBM Thinkpad 600x along
with RH 7.  However, I can only run kDM as "root" (it claims that only
root wants to run KDM).  It runs fine as root, but I'd rather run it
under my user account.

Second: startkde just wont work, and i've read through other postings
and the install FAQ.  Can someone point me to a better or more complete
how-to on startkde?

finally, the images in the folders (representations of files) and the
login picture are mangled.  File names that extend over one line have a
black bar through them.  Graphically, everything else is fine.

If anyone can spare a moment and help me out, I would be happy speak to
Santa about moving you into the "Nice" column.

regards,

jason
