I have been trying to figure out how to rearrange desktop icons on KDE
2.2.2 under program control, without much success. My goal is to be
able to automatically rearrange the icons in my preferred positions
after I switch resolutions, for example (which I do quite often,
because I use my laptop also as a desktop machine, with an external
monitor).

My attempt was to modify ~/Desktop/.directory directly, changing the
coordinates of the icons there. But there seems to be no way to tell
kdesktop to reread the file. "dcop kdesktop KDesktopIface
configure/refreshIcons" both simply redraw things.

Is this possible? Thank you for any pointers,
