Well, I had to change the kde sound server setting from "auto-detect" to
"OSS" to get almost any sound to work. Xmms, Xine, Realplayer, system
sounds and game sounds all work. KDE Media Player doesn't work.

Ok, I editing the kmix applet out of ksmserverrc and that stopped it from
coming up... thanks! I still can't load the mixer but at least all my
sound works.
If I look at the rc file for kmix, I can see that it specifies "cirrus
logic" when I don't have a cirrus logic, but a soundblaster PCI128. I
can't find where to change this setting. I guess I could change it
manually in the rc file but I wouldn't know how to specify the SB128.
