                           Position Notice
       Senior Research Programmer (Network and Computer Security)

The security of electronic information resources and technology is an
important issue at the Beckman Institute. The position of the Information
Technology Security Officer is to assist the Beckman Institute researchers
with managing network and computer security risks.

Responsibilities include training of security issues to research
personnel, performing security audits of Institute computers, maintaining
an Institute security policy, monitoring technology changes, identifying
new system vulnerabilities and assisting with deployment of security
fixes, and consulting when security breaches occur involving systems
within the Institute.

Bachelor's degree required. Good understanding of operating systems,
especially UNIX and Windows NT.  Experience using security tools and
resolving security incidents beneficial. General knowledge of network
services such as those provided in Microsoft Networking, 4.3 BSD, and
SUN Open Network Computing. A high level of integrity and excellent
judgement concerning privacy issues is a must. Experience providing
support for large-scale, multi-vendor computer environment a plus.

This is an academic professional position at Beckman Institute and is
a 12-month, 100%-time appointment with regular University of Illinois
benefits. Salary commensurate with experience. Starting date as soon as
