The Secure Shell (ssh) might fit your needs.  Try:

There is a telnet daemon/client package available that uses DES encryption.
You can get a copy from http://www.lod.com/ftpindex.html. I haven't used the
software personally and I'm not sure for what platforms its available. Good
Luck.

Many implementations of rlogin support session encryption.

SAGUS Security Incorporated has an encrypted session product called
Defensor.  Currently, it encrypts between the client and our Horatio
Secure Gateway/Firewall, but we have a new product (Defensor Server)
coming out soon which will allow precisely what you are describing,
while also providing encrypted FTP, HTTP, Gopher and SMTP mail.
Virtually any standard TCP/IP Protocol can be secured.
Check out our website at http://www.sagus-security.com or e-mail

Later.

Have a look at ssh, it provides telnet, rlogin and x sessions
between two or more machines, and it's free.  The FAQ is
posted to comp.security.misc roughly monthly, and it can be found
with a web search  The author's over the pond somewhere (:-))

Alternatively have a look at SSLeay ... it contains a lot of useful
things and does now have a Windows Telnet module (in early alpha).

1. Encrypted telnet server/client

I need to connect a DOS machine to a Unix host in a secure manner so
does anyone know of DOS telnet client which supports encryption?  It would
also be advantagous if the client is available in source code.

Any help in obtaining such a program or package would be appreciated.
