HEWLETT-PACKARD COMPANY SECURITY ADVISORY: #00115 31 May 2000
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
The information in the following Security Bulletin should be acted upon
as soon as possible. Hewlett-Packard Company will not be liable for any
consequences to any customer resulting from customer's failure to fully
implement instructions in this Security Bulletin as soon as possible.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
PROBLEM: HP OpenView OmniBack II inet daemon causes memory leaks.
PLATFORM: Windows NT 4.0 Systems running OmniBack Version 3.00 or 3.10.
DAMAGE: Potential system crash caused by repeated remote access.
SOLUTION: Apply the appropriate patch noted below.
AVAILABILITY: The patch is currently available.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
I.
A. Background
The OmniBack inet daemon running on an HP OpenView OmniBack II NT
client does not release all used memory resources after it has
closed a remote connection.
If such a client system is contacted repeatedly and very often
through the OmniBack port number, it can run out of system resources
and crash.
B. Fixing the problem
This problem can be eliminated by installing the appropriate patch
on the OmniBack NT Installation Server and then distributing the
patched binaries to the OmniBack NT clients using the client upgrade
action in the OmniBack Manager GUI.
OMNIBACK_00011 for HP OpenView OmniBack version 3.00, or
OMNIBACK_00012 for HP OpenView OmniBack version 3.10.
