i know that the newest (2.0.x) versions of linux have support for such
an animal through the new multiple-device drivers. i don't know much
more than that, i just saw the info blurb about it when i was making my
new kernel.

Hello,

is there any software which implements automatic encryption
and decryption on Unix filesystems ?

From http://www.cs.hut.fi/crypto/software.html#disk

CFS is an encrypted file system for Unix. It runs as a
user-mode NFS server on the local machine, and passes any
requests to the remote machine over an encrypted channel. It
        can be obtained from
        idea.sec.dsi.unimi.it:/pub/security/crypt/code or
        ftp.ox.ac.uk/pub/crypto/misc . See
        ftp.hacktic.nl:/pub/replay/pub/crypto/CRYPTOapps.

1. fsck of encrypted filesystems

Is there any way to fsck an encrypted partition? So far I haven't found
it, but I'd think maybe a loopback layer could be used on fsck the same
way that it is used to mount an encrypted system. As a related question,
do any of the newer journaling filesystems, such as ext3 or reiserfs,
allow encryption, or is the current code limited to ext2?

Thanks,
