BRUCE STERLING TO CHAIR PANEL AT SUN USER GROUP SYMPOSIUM

Brookline, MA, September 15, 1994 The Sun User Group today announced
that Bruce Sterling, noted author, futurist, and computer authority,
will chair a panel at their next conference, the UNIX & The Law
symposium.  The symposium, being held in Austin, November 14-17, is
the premiere of a unique multi-industry event showcasing speakers from
the technical, legal, and law enforcement professions.  Mr. Sterling's
panel, entitled "The Future of Computer Crime" will bring together
experts from all three fields to discuss what looms on the legal
horizon as more and more people conduct their business and spend their
leisure time electronically.

Sterling has been dealing with the future of technology as an author,
journalist, editor, and critic for many years.  His most recent book,
The Hacker Crackdown: Law and Disorder on the Electronic Frontier , is
a non-fiction work on computer crime and electronic civil liberties.
Sterling is on the board of directors of the Austin branch of the
Electronic Frontier Foundation and serves on the Police Liaison
Committee of this local Texan electronic civil liberties group.  He
brings a vast body of research and general knowledge of both the
computer industry and the legal profession to this panel discussion.
He also brings a group of panelists from both sides of the law - law
enforcement professionals and hackers - to sit at the table and give
us a new insight into the future.

UNIX & The Law is an educational and technical symposium that will
feature four days of talks and tutorials and bring together speakers
and attendees from not only technical fields but the legal and law
enforcement professions as well.  This symposium will be the first
forum in which representatives from these three distinct areas can
address the growing connections between their fields.  Technical
papers and presentations concerning topical issues of legality and
morality, as well as other topics of interest to the Sun/SPARC
community, will be offered.

The Conference is being held at the Driskill Hotel in Austin, TX,
November 14-17.  For more information, to register for the conference,
or to inquire about presenting a paper at the symposium, call the Sun
