PM7500, OF Booting, and video problems

Post by Adam L » Sun, 01 Aug 1999 04:00:00

I recently setup a PowerMac 7500 with LinuxPPC R5, and I intend to use
it as a web/mail server for my organization.  Since it is a server that
I wish to leave runnign all the time, I removed MacOS from it and I
just have it boot from Open Firmware.  I have done this to improve
reliability in case of a power outage or something of that nature.  It
also improves the booting time.

Anyhow, since I moved to an OF booting scheme, X video has revealed
some problems.  When moving the mouse,  the area behind the cursor is
drawn black, regardless of what is supposed to be drawn behind the
cursor.  I have tried several kernels and X Servers with no luck.  Is
there anyway to fix this?

I'm pretty sure it may have something to do with the kernel, and not
the X Server, because I have tried Mac-On-Linux, which does the same
thing (and doesn't use X).

Thanks.

What boot options are you using for your OF boot-up? video=????? Your frame
buffer may not be detected properly. If it uses the OFfb, try specifying
your video as a kernel argument.

Well, to boot, it obviously uses the quik loader,  but I am not sure
how to pass arguments this way, so I am not using any?

How would I do this and what argument do you suggest I use?
