accelerated video problem

Post by Seth » Mon, 01 Nov 1999 03:00:00

I was wondering if anyone else has had a problem getting accelerated
video with a performa monitor.  ( My "real" monitor burned out a power

tried /usr/bin/X11/Xconfigurator, and setting kernel arguments to
video=atyfb:vmode:6,cmode:16 with no luck.  The manual sez this is the
correct resoultion and refresh rate.  One more funny thing,
Xconfigurator sez I have 1 mb vram, but I have a 16 MB rage 2 card (OEM)
in a rev2 B&W G3, with the rev 2 specific kernel (2.2.6).

Thanks,

Seth

Xconfigurator doesnt read my ATI card, either. It reads as 1 or 12, when
I have 8 megs. So, I odnt have accelerated X either... I have to use the
no video options.

I am working at the same type of deal.  Just wondering, did you un-check no
video driver in Bootx?
After i did that, the system recognized my video card.

I actually dveloped a workaround.  I just plugged the old monitor back in.
Apparently the performa monitor wont take VGA in, at least unless it is 67
hz.  So I got the Blue G3 patched kernel.(2.2.6) from LinucPPC.org that has
the accelerated video included and everything works fine, accelerated video
and all.

1. Accelerated X problems from an Accelerated X newbie

Hi folks,

I am very much the newbie at Accelerated X (I have used MetroX for
most of my X needs)

In any case, here is my problem:

Just reinstalled my system:  RedHat 5.1

installed Accelerated X 4.1

getting the following errors

Example:

wmaker:  error in loading shared libraries
/usr/X11R6/lib/libXext.so.6: undefined symbol: _Xglobal_lock

wmaker never actually starts, just dumps.  I relinked libXext.so.6 to
libXext.so.6.1 (it was linked to libXext.so.6.2).  I was hoping this
would at least allow me to start window maker, which it did.  The
problem though, was that no applications would work.  Each would give
me some other library error (and attempting to relink them did no
help).

kernel 2.0.35

This occurs with:
fvwm
enlightenment
window maker (hey i even remembered the space)

can someone please give me some hint as to what may be the issue?
This has been ongoing for most of the weekend.

thanks a ton
