YDL 1.2 -- sell me it?

YDL 1.2 -- sell me it?

Post by Michael H » Mon, 10 Apr 2000 04:00:00

Hi, I'm a mac user from Canada, where you can't really buy linux for ppc
anywhere. Would someone care to burn me a copy of YDL 1.2 and send it to
me? I need to use the JDK 1.2 on there. I'll give them a few bucks to
make it worth their while. I have a digital camera, so I can give proof
that I'm sending the money.

Hey, a Vaxxine user! That was my old provider -- I was the third
person to sign up there. (Would have been the first, but two others
I told beat me to it.)

Anyway, LinuxPPC will mail to Canada, very quickly too, in my
experience. (Ordered twice from them.) There's also a place in
Quebec that sells LinuxPPC (http://www.tangal.com/). YDL lists
three Canadian resellers on their site.

1. YDL 1.2 and USB

I have a "platinum" G3/500 with an OrangeMicro USB/FireWire PCI card and
an ATI Nexus 128 PCI card. On this machine I have installed
YellowDogLinux Champion Server 1.2 successfully.

I have configured my /etc/X11/XF86config file, and I can "startx" to see
pretty colors and a graphical desktop.

I am not using an Apple ADB mouse, however. I have a Microsoft USB
Intellimouse with IntelliEye. YDL recognizes the mouse as a USB mouse
and seems happy, but XF86_FBDev can't cope with it. The version that
comes with YDL doesn't support "Protocol USB" in the Pointer section of
the XF86config file, so I can't tell it I'm using a USB mouse, and
nothing else seems to work either. In X, my mouse moves erratically for
about the first 10 seconds, then doesn't move at all after that.

I've tried linking /etc/X11/X to /usr/X11R6/bin/Xpmac_rev10 (which will
allow me to specify USB), but I can't get that server to work at all.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Tom
