I have attempted to install LinuxPPC 2000 on my 8600/300. I partitioned my
drive and installed. After choosing my password I rebooted the machine. At
this point it boots up to a grey screen. The computer will not recognize
"C" when attempting to boot off of the CDROM drive. The only drive I can
boot from is the CDROM drive using "Apple+Option+Shift+Delete". I can boot
to the Linux PPC CDROM fine using this method however, I can not reintialize
my harddrive because this key combination tells the Mac not to mount the
harddrive. When attempting to boot to the Mac OS 9 or 8.5 CD I make it to
the start up prompt with the Happy Mac logo and then receive the following
error message:"Sorry, a system error occured.....error type 10....blah,
blah, blah!" I have tried booting to Open Firmware and this will not work.
I have reset the PRAM as well and have seen no results. At this point I get
the feeling that I am "up shit's creek"! If anyone out there has any
suggestions your input would be greatly appreciated.
