comps 0.1 expected error message when trying to install

Post by Jim » Sun, 10 Oct 1999 04:00:00

I downloaded the Linuxppc package and am installing it on a Starmax 3180
with a g3 upgrade.  I'm installing on a separate hardrive and have followed
the directions on the Linuxppc Guide.  I'm put into the Red Hat installer
and get to the point where the installation of the program begins and I get
the message that comps 0.1 is expected and can't be found.  I downloaded the
file again from linuxppc.org and the the results were the same.  Is there a
simple solution.  Thanks for your help.

I am sent to the Choose Packages screen where the Default only is present.
I would expect to see the Choose Method screen since I am installing from a
hard drive.  Any attempts to choose a package has no effect.  How does one
instruct the program to look for the correct path to the installation file.
Thanks.

The most common problem is you downloaded it ASCII instead of BINARY.
Reason: Linuxppc wants UNIX style linebreaks while MacOS uses other codes.
Solution: Download BINARY.

1. Comps file not version 0.1 as expected

Hey all, I am trying to install LinuxPPC R5/1999 on my Powerbook G3.  I
get throught the redhat installer all the way to finding packages and then it
comes up with the error "Comps file is not version 0.1 as expected" and it
does not let me go any further.

Here is what I have done.  I downloaded the whole directory structure from
ftp.linuxppc.org using Fetch.  I have even downloaded the comps file numerous
times.  I even resorted to ftping from a linux server and inserting a comps
file on a PC formatted floppy just to rule out any problems ( I did this after
thr 8th failed install).  All of the RPM files show up with text icons (look
liek SimpleText files).  Is this correct?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
