My Quadra 800 and Linux??

My Quadra 800 and Linux??

Post by V-NTXEB » Tue, 18 Nov 1997 04:00:00

I just have a question with MKLinux?  Does MKLinux support the chip that is
in my Quadra 800, and if so which distributions support it.  I have RedHat
4.2 on my PC at home.  Can somebody mail me and let me know what kind of
success they have had with different distributions.  Thanks

Linux/m68k is getting close to support 040 machines now. That still
leaves us
without SCSI support for those machines, though. So I'd say: No Linux
for you, yet.

As far as I know the Quadra 800 is a 680x0 based Mac. So MkLinux won't
work on this mashine, because MkLinux requires a PowerPC processor.
But m68k Linux is in development. There are some Web pages about that:

        http://maclinux.wwaves.com/
        http://www.primenet.com/~afritz/linux-mac68k/
        http://www.cs.kuleuven.ac.be/~geert/Linux/m68k/
        http://www.clark.net/pub/lawrencc/linux/index.html

(This list is not complete, of course.)

Cheers,

mklinux- nope. it's for powermacs only. see www.mklinux.apple.com for info.

see http://www.primenet.com/~afritz/research/macintosh/linux/support/sysr...
to see if you machine is supported for linux/mac68k (the quadra is a 680x0
machine). you should also try the *BSD family for mac/68k
