Hey,

    I need a good MP3 and CD playet that runs on  Linux-PMAC. I have a
PowerMAC 5400/180.

Look for the "maplay" or "mpeg123" source, compile them and your're
ready !

P.S.: Am I right that the 5400 has the same monitor as the 5500 ? Did
you have any problem, getting Linux-PMAC to work ? I've got a 5500, and
the monitor doesn't get switched on, when I boot Linux.

Nope the 5500 has a different video chipset than the 5400.

Yes, different chipsets. But Apple's App-note about the 5500 says, that
it has the same cabinet/monitor as the 5400.
