What in the world is Gnome, a Gui interface or what and how do you go
about using it?

It's a desktop system and widget set, much like KDE. It was started in
part because KDE uses the proprietory QT library: against Linux sentiment
towards OpenSource. So, it's gtk+ lib is open.
It also looks nicer than KDE (I think), although it is not done yet.
Right now, it it pretty buggy and a memory and cpu hog. But cool! The
easiest way to install it is to get all of your image libraries up to date
and in line, and start rpming in the pieces from the Rawhide section of
biggi.linuxppc.org. You'll have to do some spoofing of shared libraries to
get imlib right (use 1.9.0, 1.9.2 doesn't work right with those gnome
rpms). Took me a little time, but I got it up now and I like it (or will
like it, when it's done).
