Any luck with the YDL-2.1 (fuji) ISO image?

Post by Tehrasha Darko » Thu, 08 Nov 2001 09:16:06

Downloaded this monster on the 6th, and thought it odd that
according to the directory, it was only 511MB.  Smaller than the Pamona
release. *shrug*  Oh well, I got it and it wouldnt mount.
I figured it got corrupted somewhere along the way, the DL manager
indicated that it had restarted many times.

So I decided to grab it again, with a more reliable FTP prog.
Got it all in one go.  But it was the same size as the bad one.
Also would not mount.  Tried a third time, and it RESUMED?
Tacked on another 150MB that was missing?

Went back to the directory, sure enough, now the file was nearer 650MB,
yet the 'modified' date still read Oct. 31.

After it finished, the image mounted, and I burned it to CD.

First tried YUP to update my existing 2.0.
No dice, got errors the moment it tried to start updating.
So I thought, no big deal, Im not too attached to this 2.0 install.
Havent had it more than a week.  Dumped it, and tried to install 2.1 on a
fresh partition.

No dice.  Installation fails the moment it tries to start installing the
packages. (no reason, just says 'unable to install packages'  *grrr*

Reinstalled 2.0 today on that partition, no problems...

Any clues?

The ISO image on ftp.yellowdoglinux.com has changed name a couple of
times (with the build date being Oct 31, Nov 5, and maybe one other),
and the size varies with the wind... a couple of days ago the image was
57 MB (very unlikely), and today it was 18MB.

Yellow Dog is clearly having some problems either with their CD build
process or with their ftp server.

Interestingly, if you look at their list of Mirror sites (and navigate
to the ISO directory, since all of the mirrors listed go to the 2.0
directories), the images vary in size there, too, but they all approach
a useful size of around 600MB.

I guess they really want you to cough up the cash to have a CD shipped
to you. Oh, wait, I've heard that ship times are late November and
counting. Oh well... there's still Mandrake... ;-)

Nope, burned first.
When toast identified it as a valid image, I burned it immediately.
Then mounted it and looked around its directories.

Tried this, got the same failures as installing from CD.

I can get to all the RPMs manually, but YUP -hates- it.

Ill try again tonight, and post the error that YUP spits out.

Good!  For a moment I thought I was going mad. *phew*

Its at 180+MB now... i guess Ill just wait a bit longer for
it to settle down.

I tried Mandrake, but its X11 installer HATES my Voodoo3.
And nothing I did could make it install in text mode. :/

1. Trouble creating bootable CD from YDL's iso image

Howdy,

I just downloaded Yellow Dog Linux as an iso CD-ROM image.  YDL readme
specifically says "Note on burning:  make sure you use your CD burning
software's 'Burn from ISO' option.  Mounting the iso image and then
burning will NOT work."

Trouble is, I can't find a way to do just that.  Help! :)
