Apropos does not seem to work

Apropos does not seem to work

Post by Peter Amber » Thu, 16 Dec 1999 04:00:00

When I try to use apropos, I always get the error "apropos: nothing
appropriate" although "man" knows about the command. It looks like as if
apropos' database has not been built when I installed the man pages. How
can I manually build/update the database?

Thanks a lot,
/Peter

You first have to create the whatis database with /usr/sbin/makewhatis
You can find this hint in whatis(1) ('man whatis') which is refered by
apropos(1) ...

1. lerdir does not seem to work with Redhat 5.1 and the free dos

Hi,

I just installed Redhat 5.1 on a QDI planar with k233 processor.
Everything worked just fine untill I brought
up DOS and tried to do an Lredir.  The command worked fine,
but when I tried to used the newly redirected disk, I got a gdt
exception.  I then loaded MS dos on a virtual drive,
booted the image, and tried the lredir and it worked.

Does the free dos work with lredir?  Is there any secret to this?
