How do I create Mac Startup disk w/ Intel PC?

Post by IBelong2LeAn » Wed, 23 Aug 2000 04:00:00

I do not have MacOS.  I have one mac, with LinuxPPC 2000 on it.  I need to
create a boot disk to "bless" my LinuxPPC 2000 boot partition, but I only have
access to an Intel PC to create the disk.  I cannot seem to find the Windows
equivelent of Apple's Disk Copy.

How do I create Mac Startup disk w/ Intel PC?  If anyone could make an image of
the disk with a Windows utility i would GREATLY appreciate it.

There are images of boot disks (older systems) on the net, for instance
at ftp.apple.com. You should be able to dd them to /dev/fd0 to make a
boot disk.

I don't think that is possible.  At least, the disks failed to boot
when I tried that a while ago.  If anybody has been successful, I'd
love to know how you did ti, because it would revive an SE/30.

Regards, Jens.

You need to strip some small amount of bytes from the start of the image
(try playing with dd skipping the first x bytes to create a new image,
then loop-mounting that). I cannot recall the exact number but it was
posted here or on linuxppc-dev a while ago.

Does the SE/30 have the 1.4 MB Drive? If not, it won't work. But apart
from that, I don't see a problem. Try mounting a HFS disk image in
Linux, it should work.

It usually does. The disk images aren't raw HFS images though.
