New HP driver (HPIJS) won't work with CUPS

Post by Bernard mentin » Tue, 26 Nov 2002 14:52:58

Hi All,

I am having trouble getting the HPIJS driver working under CUPS. I
downloaded an installed the driver as per the link from the
www.linuxprinting.org page, then downloaded and installed the CUPS PPD
file (for my printer)as per instructions, then restarted CUPS.

I set up a new printer in the CUPS admin web server (localhost:631),
using the new driver. All setup ok.

However, when I print anything, or try to print a test page. Nothing
works. There does not appear to be any job in the queue.
The older generic driver works ok.

Anyone been down this track, and got it working?
I am trying to print out "photo" quality prints, as this new driver is
mean't to be much better at.

Appreciate any help.

Cheers,
Bernie

1. HP 7150 on RH 7.3 now not working after new hpijs

Thanks in advance

based on the support reports at linuxprinting.org, I bought a

photosmart 7150. Works A-Ok under a certain popular OS.

I am using printtool (which is linked to printconf-gui) to configure,

and RH 7.3 seems to be using

LPRng (ls -l /usr/bin/lpr eventually leads to /usr/bin/lpr.LPRng)

I installed, printtool (which is actually printconf-gui) found the printer,

I called it a photosmart 1315 used hpijs driver and the test-page

looked nice. I printed from GIMP (then unaware of the gimp-print issue)

and it looked hosed--as in, way way way too pale.

I compiled and installed GS 7.05 and hpijs 1.2.1.

I reinstalled the printer, using hpijs driver. I could not find the

file noted int he README with hpijs-- to wit,

/usr/lib/rhs/rhs-printfilters/printerdb

to include the snippet that they say to include.

Anyway, now everything is broke. not even a test page prints.
