Hmmm... I wonder if this is the same problem I've been having. I'm using
LinuxPPC 2000 with an upgraded kernel (2.2.15pre19) on an AGP G4 booting
from Yaboot. Many network operations (ftp, Netscape, some telnet) cause a
kernel panic. It seems to be caused by large non-local transfers. I can
transfer large files and web pages from other computers in my house (on
ethernet), but large non-local transfers reliably crash my system. For
example, Netscape has no problem with google.com (a simple page) but
crashes every time when I visit slashdot.org (a larger page). My net
connection is a DSL line.
I experienced this same problem with LinuxPPC 1999 + kernel 2.2.15pre3
using Yaboot. It's extremely annoying, since it makes Linux unusable for
me.
If you can, try some other network apps: try telneting somewhere, try a
big ftp file transfer, etc. Also try using Netscape to load a page on
your local system to see whether the problem is just Netscape or something
network related. I'd be interested in the results. Also I'd be
interested in knowing if anyone else has experienced this problem.
It's entirely probable that your problem is completely unrelated to my
problem, but I thought I'd ask...
Thanks!
Brighten
