What kernel are you using and is vmlinux in the system folder? I installed
linuxppc 4 on a 7200 with no problem.

I had several problems doing just that, primarily caused by the fact
that the openfirmware on the 7200 won't display it's interface on the
monitor and I didn't want to buy a mac serial cable.  The install went
fine however, the openfirmware settings were easy for that part.

You need to include more information JENG-JR LEE, like which version you
are trying to install, which disks you are trying to boot from, and the
exact sequence of events leading up to the point where things stop
working as you expected.

Hi guys,

I had some problems installing LinuxPPC PR5 on my 7200/90 as well, but
managed to get things happening. After unsuccessfully fighting with
MkLinux I settled on mirroring the LinuxPPC directory. For what it's
worth, here is what happened during my attempts and hopefully it will
contain some useful information to this thread.

I followed the README's instructions to the letter, and copied
BootX and all related files to where it should be. I battled a bit
with the install images, and settled for the "Redhat" one. The
kernel supplied also did not work, and I had to find out what the
heck happened. As it turned out, the kernel did not come over via
FTP in binary format, and that is what created all the problems.
I copied one of the gzipped kernels and exploded it using MacGzip
and copied that as "vmlinux" into my system folder. Problem solved,
until I rebooted after the install. All the module dependencies
complained about a wrong kernel version, but that was solved by
copying the right kernel into the Mac system folder by mounting
my Mac partition under Linux. The next reboot went fine, and I'm
a happy kernel 2.2.6 user on my 7200/90!

Only one more problem remains to be solved, though. That is the
whole question of mapping the 2nd and 3rd mouse buttons to the
Mac 7200 single button mouse. According to the info I got from
this group, the standard mappings follows the opt-2 and opt-3
keystrokes, but that also doesn't seem to work. The old 7200
keyboard doesn't have an option button... <sigh> However,
it is still possible to use X-windows with KDE with only one
mouse button by being creative in one's approach. Creating
desktop shortcuts can be easily done by going into the
Templates folder on the desktop, and then to create whatever
shortcut by using the "File-New" dropdown menus. After the
shortcut icon has been created, simply drag and drop it to
the desktop.

That's how I get along! ;-) If anybody has solved the mouse bit,
please let me know. Thanks for all who posts useful info, since
without this group I would've been totally in the dark...
