Suse linux printing

Anyone know how to manage to print from SuSe linux ppc 7.3 (old world mac) to
HP Deskwriter 660 C ? The printer is in ttyS1. It does not print, it only
feeds couple paper out and then the lights start to blink.

What printer driver and que software are you using?

IMHO, if you're not using CUPS, you should find it and install it.

The driver is Deskwriter C (i have tried others too). I have tried lpr, bsd
and cups. None of them worked. I got garbled output or only blank papers out.
I found some instuructions from net to modify printcap but they did not work.

Make sure your serial port is set to the right speed (57600 for my
Deskwrite 540), with 'raw' and '-echo' also passed to stty.
I never did figure out how to get the print queue to set these, so I do
it in a separate command file at bootup time.  If you just take the
default setting for the serial line, you will get the behaviour you
describe.

I have done the raw and echo (see
http://sdb.suse.de/sdb/en/html/mfrueh_print_oldmac.html ) and the test print
has been ok. I have also tried to follow the additional instructions on the
site above. But when I try to print in the regular way in KDE applications I
got garbled output if I have used CUPS (set by yast2 using deskjet 670 C
driver) or blanks if I have used Yast1 (lprng).

I am assured that the problem is in the serial port configuration even I have
set the speed in yast1 as 57600 (as it is also in printcap). Yast2 does not
even see the printer port when I try to set up a bsd printer, only the modem
port (ttyS0).
