Is there a reason you want to use the 2.3 family? The stable branch at
http://www.linuxcare.com.au/paulus/kernels has USB and Initio, I believe.
Is firewire only in the dev kernels now? Go with the stable stuff if you
can, anyway -- the development kernels don't even always compile, much
less run properly. If you need a 2.3.x, try the version at the linuxcare
site; the stuff there is all tweaked and fixed for the PowerPC. And if
you post compilation errors here, we might be able to help.
I have no idea if you need to make pmac_config before xconfig. When I
make menuconfig, I see that pmac_config is run too. Regardless, it's
not much of a hassle to type "make pmac_config xconfig" instead of "make
xconfig".
