SCSI: aborting command due to timeout....?

Post by Geoff Toogoo » Tue, 12 Sep 2000 22:20:13

I have a 7300/200 powermac and I am having trouble booting from the linuxppc
2000 CD-ROM.

I am getting the following SCSI timeout errors in the linux boot script....

SCSI1: MESH
SCSI2: 53C94
SCSI : 3 hosts

SCSI : aborting command due to time out pid 0, scsi 0, channel 0, id 0, lun
0 test unit ready 00 00 00 00 00.

SCSI : aborting command due to time out pid 0, scsi 0, channel 0, id 0, lun
0 test unit ready 00 00 00 00 00.

Then the cursor just sits there when it is supposed to boot into some sort
of a GUI installation program? I have waited about 2 mins.

I have 2 internal scsi hard drives on the internal 'fast' scsi bus, an
external scsi CD writer on the external 'scsi 1' bus and an adaptec 8945
ultra scsi adapter on the PCI bus which has an LVD hard drive attatched to
it. I believe All scsi devices are terminated and have a unique scsi id.

Could it be the way I have my scsi devices set? do I need to play around
with different scsi ids or termination to make linux happy?

Thanx for the help.

Geoff

My 7300/166 works fine with LPPC2k...

                ^^^
You MUST NOT terminate any device on any SCSI bus except for the last one, but
this one MUST be terminated!

I think (if termination is fine, of course;-)) you should remove the Adaptec
card and the cd writer from the external bus and try again.

Hope this helps, Albrecht.
