Newbie in Mac/LinuxPPC 2K

Post by Yan, SY FUN » Fri, 09 Jun 2000 04:00:00

I am a beginner in Mac.

I got a 8500/150 PPC with 2G SCSI and 80MB RAM. I use OS 7.5.3 created a
first HFS 20MB partition as "/boot", then booted from LinuxPPC CD made
"/" in 1.6GB and "swap" in 128MB. Installation completed and cannot
boot.

Mac OS CD boot the PPC but don't know where/how to use text editor to
modify "/boot".

The above may be a stupid question since I got no problem for AlphaLinux
and x86 Linux installation.

    Hi.

Well, let me see, the problem is that you are not able to edit
yaboot.conf? If it is, try to use the wordperfect translation in
AppleWorks, i do not know if your boot cd have it, but this was the way
I've put my iBook to run with yaboot... anyway, I think that your machine
can boot without problems with bootX...

        Cyou.

Thanks Alberto!

It seems to me that WordPerfect for Mac is not bundled in my MacOS CD.

Thanks Gustilo!

The User Guide -Feb,2K is downloaded. Bootx PDF document comes with the
LinuxPPC 2K CD but I got one and only one Mac in my life for few days which is
"dead" at the time being.

How "BOOTX" can be executed during boot from the LinuxPPC CD?

1. LinuxPPC, SuSE, Mac/OS question (newbie, but answer not in FAQ AFAIK)

Hi,

I have a friend who wants me to install Linux on an Apple G3 (or maybe even
G4!), but he want SuSE Linux since it is the best for European people like
hisself and myself ....

Anyway, I need to know if this is possible, and further there is no mention
in the FAQ's that I can find of *deleting* the Mac/OS when you are done.
Does no-one do this? Is it possible?
