ixMicro Ultimate Rex PCI video card + LinuxPPC CD boot

Post by Brian Walto » Thu, 01 Feb 2001 11:01:26

I have the ixMicro Ultimate Rez 8 Meg PCI video card as my primary video in
a PM 7200. When I boot the LinuxPPC CD (not Q4-2000) I get a kernel panic

Machine check in kernel mode. (regs at c01acd60)
Caused by (from srr1): Unknown values in srr1

Then comes the memory information and it states a "kernel panic: machine
check"

Does this mean that I cannot use the video card for linux or must I use the
onbard video (slower and low memory).

Thanks for any help, I am new to the Mac/PPC platform.

Brian,

I also have an IXMicro Ultimate Rez 8MB - but I have never been able to
get that to work while booting off the CD.  Even booting the CD with
Kenel arguments to the IMS Twin Turbo - I have never gotten it to work -
once I remember I did - but that was after and install with the internal
video on an 8600 - making sure to boot not in X switching to runlevel 3?
- then switched it to the ixMicro card - then messed around with
xconfig.  But as I said - I can't remember what I did and what I used -
It was over a year ago with LinuxPPC 1999 Q1 or Q2 or so.

If anyone else has a solution - some of us would like to hear it.  If I
get time - I'll try that again - I do remember having it working - but
for the life of me - I need to start writting these things down.

Sorry, there are no drivers for the UltimateRes (tt3d) card and there likely won't
be since IXMicro has been out of buiseness for quite a while. The only solution is
to use the Open Firmware Framebuffer suppot (video=ofonly). I gave up and
installed the driver for my 3Dfx Voodoo3 card Now I don't need the UltRes any
more.
